My Advice: Always wear seat belts! There might be people like me driving on the roads. And of course, you might come across many phone booths with tendencies to shift lanes haphazardly!!!

Spread this message.[And, make my blog popular;-)]. No, seriously, spread the message around, Wear Seat Belts and have a safe commute. And, forget the phone while you have the steering wheel to play with:)

R.V Road is one of the roads in Bangalore where you have trees, age old trees, some of them probably more than 50-60 years old. If you are traveling on that road (the term boulevard suits perfectly here) you would find shade through-out the strip with very little sun penetrating the thick canopy. Even on hot summer days, it is a very pleasant walk/drive/ride on that strip.

Recently, with the Namma Metro being sanctioned, this is one of the roads where the Metro is planned. All, all! of the trees on this road will be cut to accommodate the Metro Rail. Not only that, the parks which line up the entire stretch will also take a beating.

Currently, this is how it looks from above. It is known by several names -R.V Road, Nanda Road, Rose Garden Road. I call it the NFS Route( there was a route in the computer game NeedForSpeed which looked exactly like this:)).

The Green Strip you see in the photograph below is R.V Road!!

I have a GPS phone (a Nokia 6110 Navigator) from quite sometime now. I haven’t done much justice to the internal GPS unit in the phone (free for lifetime). But, whenever I traveled, I made sure that I logged the co-ordinates of the important/key places I visited. I started mapping them on google maps and sharing them with others. Here is one such map of my Ladakh Bike Trip 2008, done on a Royal Enfield Bullet 500cc. I had logged the co-ordinates during the trip of some key places and the others I manually marked them on the map. I am using google maps on my website.

http://pradeepclicks.com/gpsapp/ladakh.html

Now, I also have an application running on my phone which can, in real time, log coordinates either on my phone as a file or log it directly on my website as a KML file. I read the KML file on my website and use googleMaps to map it in realtime. My location can then be viewed in realtime, with a maximum time resolution of 15seconds. I can also use the KML file with googleEarth and view it.

One more application is GeoTagging. I have the KML file with the timestamp-coordinate logs which I can later use with some other tool/application to GeoTag all my photographs. I will then know where the photographs have been taken, again with a location resolution of less than a few tens of meters!

You can view googleMaps here. You can download googleEarth here. You can download and know more about the phone application here.

AeroIndia Show has been happening at Yelahanka Air Force Station, Bangalore, India from 1996. It happens every other year, except that instead of 2002, it happened in 2003. That meant, the 7th edition was to be held in 2009. And it was held between 11-15th Feb 2009.

Here are some glimpses from the show. I should admit that it was not as great as I had expected it to be this time around…See for yourself here.

They call India, The Land of the Tigers. All these years, I never believed in it! That’s because, I have traveled many places in India in search of this elusive striped predator right from our very own national parks like Bandipur/Nagarhole in Karnataka to the Periyar Tiger Reserve in Kerala to Kaziranga National Park in Assam. But I never sighted one in the wild!. But they always said, Ranathambore National Park in Rajasthan is the place to be, if you want to spot tigers in the wild. I heard the news that 14 cubs were born in Ranathmabore NP, I was just back from Kaziranga NP in Assam then. I was in a dilemma, to go or to skip, but I couldn’t wait! I somehow managed to get leaves and headed to Ranathambore NP. I was lucky, I got some 10 minutes with a tigress and it’s two 12month old cubs in one of those Jeep Safaris. Some moments shared here….
